2016 - 2017 Performance Season
t amazes me that I have been enjoying my work and music making with the Maine Music Society for ten years now. Ten Years!! Without a doubt the greatest pleasures of these past ten years have been meeting and working with so many wonderful people -- members of the Board of Directors as well as the singers and orchestra players with whom I make music. All of them have taught me so much. In addition to the people, I have discovered new music -- from the greatest of the master composers like Bach, Beethoven and Mozart to contemporary composers, including our own Colin Britt from Auburn, Maine. These discoveries have added depth to our concerts.
The exploration continues with new selections for our Heritage Christmas concert, the Bach B Minor Mass in March (which has been on my wish list for so long), and the season finale in May with songs by Carole King and James Taylor. A season with music for everyone!
Come celebrate the joy of singing with us -- Making Music Soar!
e invite you to join The Maine Music Society for the 2016 – 2017 season, our 26th year of Music for eveyrone. This season’s concerts, chosen for the power of their music, all seek to provide an excellent musical experience while appealing to different musical tastes: five a cappella singing groups for the Battle of the Blends, traditional United States holiday songs for A Heritage Christmas, the elegant Bach B Minor Mass, and iconic pop classics in Songs of Carole King and James Taylor. All music lovers are sure to find one or more concerts that satisfy their musical preferences.
Under the direction of Artistic Director John Corrie the Maine Music Society’s Chorale, Orchestra and Chamber Singers attract talented vocalists and instrumentalists from the greater Lewiston/Auburn metropolitan area and beyond. In addition to concerts, MMS contributed its music to a variety of community events during the past year, including Art Walk LA, citizen naturalization ceremonies and the recent dedication ceremony for the new Simard-Payne Park outdoor amphitheater.
MMS is also committed to creating educational opportunities for area students by inviting various high school choirs to participate in our concerts, learning from and singing with our experienced chorale under Director Corrie in a formal setting. In March of 2016, the Edward Little and Lewiston High School Chamber Choirs, as well as the Bates College Choir and Orchestra performed with the Chorale, the Basilica’s Schola Cantorum and the MMS Orchestra at the Beethoven Missa Solemnis Concert. It was an enriching experience for everyone involved.
Please join us this 2016 – 2017 season as the Maine Music Society enters its 26th year of offering exciting and innovative choral delights!
