2018 - 2019 Performance Season

John Cories, Artistic Directorur new season begins with the 25th Battleof the Blends. The incredible sounds of seven a cappella groups will entertain everyone with a variety of music from the 15th century right up to the 21st. Don't miss this celebration!

December will bring the Heritage Holiday concerts with Christmas carols and Chanukah songs from around the world, including favorites like "Silent Night," "Chanukah Oh Chanukah" and "O Holy Night" sung in their original languages.

In March, the Chorale will add to their repertoire of Classical music by performing another oratorio by George Frederic Handel. Judas Maccabaeus is the dramatic presentation of the Maccabees in the fight against their oppressors in Judea.

Finishing the season, the Chorale will expand their talents to Motown with songs from the movie The Big Chill . These songs, from the 60's and 70's, like "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" have attained an iconic status.

For each concert, it is the challenge of learning and then the presentation of new songs that delights all of us – you the audience, the chorale singers and me – and brings us to the joy of Making Music Soar.

Sincerely,

Artistic Director

he Maine Music Society is a versatile non-profit choral organization that performs a wide variety of musical styles for the enjoyment of its patrons.   We consist of the 60 voice MMS Chorale, 20 voice a capella MMS Chamber Singers and professional MMS Orchestra whose members share their love of music and music making with the community.

In addition to performing four major concerts each year at the Gendron Franco Center, members of MMS participate in community events such as the Lewiston/Auburn Art Walk, Veteran recognition and US citizen naturalization ceremonies, and Twelfth Night Celebrations . We regularly collaborate with local high school and adult choirs to support the growth of choral singing in the area.

Our repertoire includes music for everyone – major classical and modern works, pop, rock, folk songs, jazz, religious pieces, art songs, and carols. We invite you to join us in our 28th year of making music soar!

Balancing Our Budget

Because of recent increases in the cost of selling tickets and accommodating Franco Center parking, after much consideration we have decided to institute a $2 handling fee for all ticket sales. We hope you will be understanding of this necessary increase that will help us to continue bringing first quality choral performances to the Lewiston-Auburn area.

eorge Frederic Handel composed this oratorio in 1746, five years after he wrote the more famous oratorio Messiah. This piece is based on the period when Judea was occupied by a dynasty of Hellenist kings who set about the destruction of the Jewish religion. The adherence to all Jewish law was forbidden. The story unfolds with the solos and choruses dramatizing the fight of the Maccabees against – and their eventual victory over – the occupying kings. The stunning music includes famous choruses, most notably the "Hallelujah, Amen." You are sure to be moved by the magnificent music of this Baroque master.
